The family is the most important part of our society. We must protect family values. To defend our children from improper influences and dangers, Dave will fight to uphold the rights of parents, protect our individual freedoms from unnecessary government imposition, and work to eliminate the polluting forces of pornography and extreme violence. We must enforce our laws and provide parents with the tools necessary to keep our kids safe. Dave is firmly pro-life.

Education should be our top priority. Here in Riverton, Herriman & South Jordan, we need to pay special attention to schools. With booming growth, we have some of the highest class sizes in the nation. The legislature must step up to provide the support needed here at home.  Dave will be a strong voice for public schools and parental empowerment. Here’s how:

1. ‣ Shift substantial support into public education to impact class size, teacher pay and support, and technology in  substantial ways.
   

2. ‣ Streamline funding to ensure that money makes it into the classroom, not bureaucracy.
   

3. ‣ Vouchers and Tuition-Tax Credits are not viable options. Dave strongly opposed both in the legislature.

Access to affordable healthcare is crucial to building strong families. We must work to use innovative solutions to lift the burden off of hard-working people struggling to obtain insurance. This can be especially difficult for the self-employed. Socialized medicine is not the answer, but we must strive to help those most in need, especially children. Dave delivered for Utah kids by increasing funding to the Utah Children’s Health Insurance Plan.

Open and honest government is the key to a healthy democracy. Dave will keep the process of government open to the people. He pledges to introduce legislation to:

1. ‣Simplify the referendum process to ensure that the voters always have the last word.
   

2. ‣Eliminate lobbyist gifts; require full disclosure of all campaign funds & all conflicts of interest.
   

3. ‣Implement a system to disclose how all tax dollars are spent by the state government.

We are years behind in road development. Congestion on all major travel arteries needs to be addressed as one of our priorities. Light Rail is one part of the the solution, but we also need to fully fund road projects like the Mountain View Corridor (without a toll road) and expand bus routes to reach all parts of our community.

We are all blessed to live in such a beautiful state that provides high quality of life. To sustain this lifestyle, we must plan and conserve to ensure our children and grandchildren can enjoy that same natural beauty. If we work together, we can be responsible stewards of this beautiful place we call home. Dave will:

1. ‣ Keep public lands open while doing everything possible to protect their natural integrity
   

2. ‣ Pursue alternative energy options to keep our air and water clean and safe

We need to do a better job managing balanced budgets and allocations. We should reward those agencies that maintain efficiency and good management. Agencies must be held accountable and strict priorities should be maintained with expenditures going first to education, health and public safety. Dave consistently found creative solutions to fund essential programs without increasing the tax burden, like his 2005 funding plan for CHIP.

Family Values – Guarding Our Most Precious Resource

The Constitution guarantees individuals the right to keep and bear arms. Dave supports the right of citizens to bear arms to protect their families, their property and for sport. Gun control will not stop criminals from getting guns. We need to enforce stiffer sentences and mandatory time served to send a clear message to all criminals.
